Autism Signs

Since autism is a spectrum disorder, every case is unique.  The characteristics and manifestations vary from case to case. This is why there is no easy way to diagnose autism, nor is it easy to tell if your child has autism or not.  Autism is determined not only by the presence of certain behaviors, but also by the absence of others.

The following signs might indicate your child has autism. Please consult a professional for a complete and thorough diagnosis.

  • Mostly silent (12 months of age)
  • Has lost any communication skill once gained.
  • Repeats phrases or words heard regardless of their meaning.
  • Speaks in a monotone or robot-like speech.
  • Doesn’t understand what he is being said.

There are more children affected by autism than there are affected by cancer, diabetes, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy or Down syndrome.  Even though there is not a scientific explanation of why statistics keep rising, treatments keep improving.
