Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

Applied behavioral analysis is the application of behavioral principles to everyday situations that will, over time, increase or decrease targeted behaviors. ABA is a method based on the premise that appropriate behavior, including speech, academics and life skills, can be taught using scientific principles. ABA is based on the theory that behaviors can be taught through a system of rewards and consequences. Research shows that ABA works for kids with autism in increasing communication, learning and encouraging appropriate social behaviors. The therapists at MindWorks will customize the intervention to each learner’s skills, needs, interests, preferences and family situation. Here at MindWorks, our licensed occupational therapists and speech language pathologists utilize principles from ABA to facilitate and/or promote functional independence in communication, social skills and areas of occupation.
